Senior Building Code Consultant (Building Surveyor - Unrestricted) – Sydney CBD office

The Opportunity

Philip Chun are seeking experienced Building Surveyor’s - Unrestricted to join our team in our Sydney CBD office located at Australia Square.

Reporting to an Associate and working with a collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to work on a comprehensive range of projects as either the Principal Registered Certifier or BCA Consultant from project inception to completion. This role will allow you to establish yourself as a leading figure in the industry, developing professional relationships and building a strong client base. You will enjoy the benefit of not only improving your own knowledge base and experience but also being able to mentor and train junior staff in the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out the day-to-day functions of a Principal Registered Certifier
  • Assessing applications for and issuing Complying Development Certificates, Construction Certificates, Occupation Certificates and Crown Certification under the relevant Legislation
  • BCA assessment and reporting
  • Carrying out inspections and auditing of new and existing buildings
  • Assessment of performance-based solutions on all classes of buildings including liaising with fire safety engineers and Fire & Rescue NSW
  • Providing advice to clients in a comprehensive written and verbal consulting role
  • Preparation of fees in accordance with company structure and client requirements
  • Attend meetings and provide advice on regulatory compliance matters
  • Ability to identify and pursue opportunities that benefit the business

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Registration as a Building Surveyor – Unrestricted with a minimum of 3 years experience at this accreditation level.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant field
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of the EP&A Act and EP&A Regulations, BCA (Volume 1 and 2) including documents adopted by reference in the BCA including relevant Australian Standards
  • Superior organisational and communication skills
  • Proven experience working across a diverse range of projects
  • A desire to be part of our team including mentoring and training junior staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients to meet their requirements and BCA regulations

Package

A salary package of up to $220K including a bonus structure is on offer for the suitable candidate.

Technical Support Administration - Sydney CBD Office

Philip Chun are seeking an experienced Technical Administration Support person to join our team in our Sydney CBD office located at Australia Square.

Reporting to an Associate and working with a collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to provide support on a comprehensive range of projects as well as the implementation of new systems and processes.

This role will suit a clear communicator, who is self-motivated and has demonstrated experience in exceeding internal and external client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review fee requests and Request for Tender (RFT’s) by private and Government sectors and prepare and issue relevant Fee Proposals
  • Project co-ordination: fee and project set up and communications, as well as invoice co-ordination
  • Reviewing of Consultancy Agreements and Contracts issued by clients to ensure consistency with the Philip Chun Fee Proposal
  • Assist in preparing Construction Certificates / Occupation Certificates and Complying Development Certificates (CC/OC/CDC)
  • Lodgements and updates to the NSW Planning Portal accurately and on time
  • BCS (Building Certification Systems) input and updates
  • Customer liaison

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Prior experience in a technical administration support role within the construction industry
  • BCS (Building Certifications Systems) experience desirable
  • Superior communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent organisation skills, able to work autonomously as well as the ability to multitask to ensure deadlines are met
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office) with the ability to learn and adapt to new processes and systems

Cadet Building Surveyor - Brisbane CBD office

Philip Chun is a multi-disciplinary consulting company providing certification, building code, accessibility, fire and life safety consulting services to the construction and development industry.

We currently have a position available for a Cadet Building Surveyor in our Brisbane office.

To be considered for this position you must possess:

  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret and write technical reports.
  • The ability to work within a highly motivated team of consultants.
  • Excellent organisation skills.

Essential Services Consultant - Melbourne Office

The Opportunity

Philip Chun are seeking experienced Essential Services Consultants to join our team in our Melbourne CBD office.

Philip Chun Essential Services provides building owners / agents, property / maintenance managers and building contractors, a service to ensure that the statutory obligations are met with respect to the ongoing safety, reliability, and maintenance of building Essential Safety Measures.

Under the current Victorian Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018, building owners / agents are responsible for the inspection, testing, preventive maintenance, survey and record keeping of their buildings Essential Safety Measures (e.g. fire hydrants, emergency lights, exits) for the life of the building.

The regulations also require that, prior to the anniversary of the Occupancy Permit, an Annual Essential Safety Measures Report, is issued for the building.   

Reporting to the Essential Services Director and Associate and working within a small and collaborative team, you will have the opportunity to work on a comprehensive range of existing contracts, as well as working with the Building Code and Access teams to explore new business development opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out the day-to-day functions of an Essential Services Consultant including:
    • Examine the maintenance documentation for the building or site including the maintenance manuals, inspection reports, logbooks and test certificates, to determine the appropriate level of performance & maintenance requirements is being achieved.
    • Undertake 12 monthly audits / review the maintenance documentation.
    • Prepare and present Annual Essential Safety Measures Report,
    • Carry out inspections to Essential Services, e.g. paths of travel, exit doors, smoke doors, annual lift shaft inspections, fire resisting structures, fire penetrations, etc. as well as prepare and compete inspection reports and records as well as follow up relevant contractors etc.
  • Ability to work within a small co-operative team environment.
  • Ability to interact with clients and contractors in a professional, timely and suitable manner maintaining the integrity and reputation of the company.
  • Assist in obtaining new business opportunities and identify and implement marketing strategies to achieve growth of the existing client base.
  • Provide advice to clients in a comprehensive written and verbal consulting role.
  • Preparation of fees in accordance with company structure and client requirements.
  • Attend meetings and provide advice on regulatory compliance matters.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Proven prior experience working across a diverse range of projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the legislative requirements governing the requirements for Essential Services maintenance predominantly in Victoria as well as the other Australian States.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Building Code of Australia.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the Victorian Building Act 1993 and Building Regulations 2018. 
  • Have and further develop suitable knowledge of reading and understanding Fire Engineering Reports.
  • Have and further develop suitable knowledge of the relevant Australian Standards, specifically AS 1851.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • A desire to be part of our team including mentoring and training junior staff.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clients to ensure their Essential Safety Measures are met.
  • Full driver’s license.
  • Applicable up to date vaccinations (ie: Covid & Flu) as required to attend sites such as hospitals/aged care etc.
  • Working with children check.

Please note that due to the nature of the roll, some out of hours/weekend work may be required, therefore appropriate flexibility is required.

This is a fulltime role, although persons wishing to work part time will also be considered.

Building Surveyor (Limited / Unlimited) - Melbourne Airport Office

Philip Chun is a multi-disciplinary consulting company providing certification, building code and accessibility consulting services to the construction and development industry.

An opportunity exists for a Building Surveyor in our Melbourne Airport office.  This is a full-time position with an immediate start date.

To be considered for this position you must have:

  • Registration as an Accredited Building Surveyor / Inspector (Limited / Unlimited), however candidates near to registration will be considered.
  • Commercial building surveying experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • Possess a current driving licence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • BCA assessment and reporting, including carrying out inspections of buildings.
  • Attend design meetings and provide regulatory advice.
  • Assessment of fire engineering analysis.
  • Auditing of buildings / enforcement.

Salary Package
