Globe Hotel, Barcaldine, QLD

Philip Chun were engaged by architects Brian Hooper and m3architecture as the Building Certifier for The Globe Hotel in Barcaldine, Central Queensland.

Completed in 2015, this modern renovation of an iconic outback pub, has been chosen to represent Australia in the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale, with the theme of ‘repair’. This is not only showcasing the architectural aspects of the project but also highlighting how a renewal can transform some of our most remote towns.

Barcaldine is also the home of the heritage listed Tree of Knowledge memorial site, also designed by Brian Hooper and m3architecture. Philip Chun were engaged as the Building Certifiers for this project which was completed in 2009.

The Tree of Knowledge was the site of the first ever reading of the Labour Party Manifesto and home of the 1891 Australian Shearers strike.
