Building Code Consultants – Sydney & Sydney Airport Offices

Philip Chun have multiple openings for Building Code Consultants in our Sydney and  Sydney Airport Offices.  These are all full time positions.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out the day-to-day functions/role of an Accredited Certifier and Principal Certifying Authority.
  • Prepare and issue inspection reports.
  • Assessing applications for and issuing Complying Development Certificates and Part 4A Certificates as required under the EP&A Act and Regulations.
  • BCA assessment and reporting, including carrying out inspections of buildings.
  • Provides advice to clients in a written and verbal consulting role.
  • Assessment of performance-based solutions on all classes of buildings including liaising with fire safety engineers and Fire & Rescue NSW.
  • Auditing of buildings.
  • Assist with the preparation of fee proposals in accordance with company fee scales.
  • Flexibly adapts to a dynamic work environment as well as managing time to meet project budgets and time frames.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Minimum of 2 years practical experience as a Building Regulations Consultant or Accredited Certifier in either Local Government or private sector. Registration as an Accredited Building Certifier (preferably A1,  A2 or A3) or ability to seek accreditation will be looked upon favourably.
  • Tertiary Qualifications in relevant field.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with all aspects of the EP&A Act and EP&A Regulations, BCA (Volume 1 and 2) including documents adopted by reference in the BCA such as Australian Standards with all aspects of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Preference is for an applicant who possesses demonstrated experience in completing certification work for a variety of class 2-9 building projects.
  • Excellent organisation skills, able to work autonomously as well as the ability to multitask to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and keyboard skills and fully competent in the use of the Microsoft office package and Outlook.
  • Bluebeam and BCS (Building Certification Software) experience highly regarded.

Access Consultants - Sydney Office

Philip Chun have multiple openings for Access Consultants in our Sydney Office.  These are all full time positions.

Responsibilities

  • Attend consultant meetings with Architects, Project Managers and Designers and provide a high level advice on DDA and BCA matters.
  • Ensure consistency of interpretation and implementation of the relevant Acts, Standards and Codes with team and across Philip Chun Group.
  • Assess building designs and manage projects to ensure work complies with relevant Acts, Standards and Codes.
  • Carry out site inspections to ensure work complies with relevant Acts, Standards and Codes as it relates to people with disabilities.
  • Liaise and negotiate with clients, relevant authorities and their consultants to achieve optimum outcomes.
  • Preparation and issue of fee proposals.
  • Completion of design reviews and completion of physical access audits on existing buildings to assess conformity with the BCA/DDA and associated legislation.
  • Report writing and consultancy advice.
  • Monthly invoicing provided accurately and on time.
  • Assisting in the regulatory processes, customer service and professional advice under the provision of the relevant legislation.
  • Liaise with Access Consultants and Administration teams to ensure most effective use of resources.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Minimum 2 years experience as an Access Consultant. Preference will be given to Accredited Access Consultants.
  • Degree/diploma, or the equivalent in Occupational Therapy, Architecture, Interior Design, Building Design, Building Construction or similar qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Disability Discrimination Act, Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of the building industry, including the current techniques and materials, methods and procedures.
  • Well-developed skills in oral and written communication over a wide spectrum of people (colleagues, clients, suppliers and general public) with the ability to discuss, persuade, convince and negotiate to resolve problems.
  • Excellent organisation skills, able to work autonomously as well as the ability to multitask to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer and keyboard skills and fully competent in the use of the Microsoft office package and Outlook.

Technical Administration Support – Sydney Office

Philip Chun are recruiting for a  Technical Administration Support role in our Sydney Office.  This is a full time position.

Responsibilities

  • Review fee requests and Request for Tender (RFT’s) by private and Government sectors and prepare and issue relevant Fee Proposals:
    • Ensure all contact details and relevant information is correct
    • Fill out fee scope where relevant
    • Issue fee to clients in appropriate format and within due date
  • Reviewing of Consultancy Agreements and Contracts issued by clients to ensure consistency with the Philip Chun Fee Proposal
    • All details are correct (ie: correct company, start dates etc)
    • Contracts are signed by the appropriate person/s.
  • Assist in preparing Construction Certificates / Occupation Certificates and Complying Development Certificates (CC/OC/CDC) (with appropriate training).
    • Collate and collect the required information and reports for CC, CDC and OCs
    • Typing and readying the CC/OC/CDC for issue
    • Assisting with typing and issuing of letters
    • Assisting with complaint resolution and filing thereof
    • Collating documents from websites and emails
    • Assisting with the issue of the list of requirements for CC, CDC and OCs
    • Form completion to assist clients for CC/CDC/OC applications
    • Aconex / dropbox document uploads and document retrievals
  • Update NSW Planning Portal accurately and on time.
  • Ensure BCS (Building Certification System) software is updated accurately and on time.
  • Administration
  • Follow up outstanding opportunities:
    • Make opportunities inactive in Vision when advised by project managers
    • Call clients and seek feedback if the contract has been awarded to anyone.
    • Weekly reporting as required.
  • Set up Opportunities and Projects within Deltek Vision database promptly and accurately.
  • Undertake data entry into Deltek Vision database as required.
  • Update and/or refresh the following standard documents periodically:
    • fee templates
    • capability templates
    • project templates
    • Sydney Building Code staff CVs

General Administration

  • Other tasks as required to assist in the approvals process and office management.
  • Share responsibility of answering office phone with other administration staff
  • Share responsibility of miscellaneous office management tasks such as stationery and consumable ordering,
  • Electronic filing and storage box filing and retrieval.
  • Provide backup for other administration/technical support staff for overflow work or when on leave as required.

Qualifications & Competencies

  • Prior experience in an administration role, preference will be given to applicants that have come from an technical administration role.
  • BCS (Building Certifications Systems) experience desirable.

Cadet Building Surveyor - Brisbane

Philip Chun is a multi-disciplinary consulting company providing certification, building code, accessibility, fire and life safety consulting services to the construction and development industry.

We currently have a position available for a Cadet Building Surveyor in our Brisbane office.

To be considered for this position you must possess:

  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • Strong ability to read, interpret and write technical reports.
  • The ability to work within a highly motivated team of consultants.
  • Excellent organisation skills.
  • Computer and keyboard skills with knowledge and understanding of Microsoft software.
  • Open Driver’s License.
  • Australian Citizenship.
  • A commitment to either commence or continue a Bachelor of Building Surveying or equivalent tertiary course of study.

Experience or knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and Queensland Building legislation will be viewed favourably.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diligently undertake an approved course of tertiary studies that will provide a Building Surveying degree qualification.
  • Progressively acquire knowledge of the Building Code of Australia and other legislation relative to building development.
  • Progressively acquire those skills necessary to assist in the assessment, approval, inspection and certification of building development under the Queensland Building Act.
  • Client liaison, problem solving and technical/project management of projects.
  • Undertake other building surveying and regulatory duties to support senior staff.
