Building Inspector - Melbourne Office

Philip Chun is a multi-disciplinary consulting company providing certification, building code, accessibility, fire and life safety consulting services to the construction and development industry.

We currently have a position available for a Building Inspector in our Melbourne office.  This a full-time role with an immediate start date.

To be considered for this position you must possess:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years practical experience as a Building Inspector as required in either Local Government or private sector.
  • Registration as an Accredited Building Inspector (unlimited), however consideration will; be given to candidates near to registration.
  • Preference is for an applicant who possesses good demonstrated experience in completing certification work for a variety of class 2-9 building projects.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the enforcement of safety and building standards as provided in the Building Act and Building Regulations.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organise workloads and prioritise tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • The ability to work within a highly motivated team of consultants.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with AIBS is desirable.
  • Computer and keyboard skills with knowledge and understanding of Microsoft software.
  • Current Drivers Licence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and issue inspection reports
  • BCA assessment and reporting, including carrying out inspections of buildings.
  • Advice to clients in a written and verbal consulting role.
  • Assessment of performance based solutions on all classes of buildings.
  • Auditing of buildings.
  • Relationship with MFB/CFA desirable.
  • You will be responsible for completing onsite mandatory inspections and ensuring construction is being completed in accordance with approved documentation.
  • You will have a passion for compliance.

  • You will provide friendly service and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external customers.

Assistant Building Surveyor – Melbourne Airport

We currently have a position available for an Assistant Building Surveyor in our Melbourne Airport office.  This a full-time role with an immediate start date.

To be considered for this position you must possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years practical experience as a Building Regulations Consultant or Accredited Certifier as required in either Local Government or private sector.
  • Registration as a Building Surveyor Limited or Unlimited, however consideration will; be given to candidates near to registration.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • The ability to work within a highly motivated team of consultants and provide support to senior staff.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with AIBS is desirable.
  • Computer and keyboard skills with knowledge and understanding of Microsoft software.
  • Driver License.
  • You must have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this position.

  • Prepare and issue inspection reports.
  • BCA assessment and reporting, including carrying out inspections of buildings.
  • Advice to clients in a written and verbal consulting role.
  • Assessment of performance based solutions on all classes of buildings including liaising with fire safety engineers and relevant stakeholders.
