Building Surveyor/Inspector – Melbourne

Philip Chun is a multi-disciplinary consulting company providing certification, building code, accessibility, fire and life safety consulting services to the construction and development industry.

We currently have a position available for a Senior Building Surveyor/Building Inspector in our Melbourne office. This is a full-time role with an immediate start date.

To be considered for this position you must possess:

  • A minimum of 3-5 years practical experience as a Building Surveyor/Building Inspector as required in either Local Government or private sector.
  • Registration as an Accredited Building Surveyor/Inspector (preferably unlimited), however consideration will be given to candidates with limited registration.
  • Preference is for an applicant who possesses sound demonstrated experience in completing certification work for a variety of class 2-9 building projects noting that we also engage in Class 1a projects on a small volume.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with all aspects of the Building Act 1993, Building Regulations 2018, Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the enforcement of safety and building standards as provided in the Building Act and Building Regulations.
  • Ability to effectively plan and organise workloads and prioritise tasks to meet tight deadlines.
  • Tertiary qualifications in the relevant field.
  • A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels.
  • The ability to work within a highly motivated team of consultants.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with AIBS is desirable.
  • Computer and keyboard skills with knowledge and understanding of Microsoft software.
  • Current Drivers Licence.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and issue inspection reports
  • BCA assessment and reporting, including carrying out inspections of buildings.
  • Advice to clients in a written and verbal consulting role.
  • Assessment of performance based solutions on all classes of buildings.
  • Auditing of buildings.
  • Relationship with MFB/CFA desirable.
  • You will be responsible for completing onsite mandatory inspections and ensuring construction is being completed in accordance with approved documentation.

Access Consultants x 2 – Sydney

Philip Chun is a multi-disciplinary consulting company providing certification, building code, accessibility, fire and life safety consulting services to the construction and development industry.

Positions currently exists in our Sydney office for two (2) Access Consultants.

Both positions are full time, permanent roles.

Within this role, you will take responsibility for:

  • Assess building designs and manage projects to ensure work complies with the relevant Acts, Standard and Codes.
  • Prepare access reports as required to satisfy client requirements.
  • Carry out site inspections to ensure work compiles with relevant Acts, Standards and Codes as it relates to people with disabilities.
  • Complete physical access audits and design reviews of existing buildings to access compliance with the BCA/DDA and associated legislation.
  • DDA assessment and reporting throughout all design stages and the approvals process.
  • Liaising with consultants on DDA issues.
  • Preparing fee proposals.
  • Attending client meetings.
  • Attending industry forums/seminars to promote Philip Chun Access.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Ideally a minimum 5 years practical experience as an Access Consultant, although we will consider persons with less.
  • Knowledge, experience or desire to become experienced with DDA, BCA and relevant Australian Standards.
  • The ability to work within and manage a highly motivated team of consultants.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.
  • Excellent organisation and communication skills with people at all levels.
  • Eligibility to work in Australia - 457 Visa applicants can apply.
  • An understanding of the principles of Universal Design.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with ACAA.
